In southern New York is a small town known as Callicoon. It is positioned in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains and located along the Delaware River which separates New York and Pennsylvania. According to the United States Census Bureau, the Sullivan County city had a population of approximately 3,057 people in 2010.

Callicoon is located in an area of New York that was originally inhabited by Native American peoples. When settlers of European descent arrived in the area, the Native American Indians were pushed out, making room for European communities, farms, and businesses. European settlers formed Callicoon in the mid-1800s. The name of the city is said to be derived from Dutch and Choctaw words that mean “turkey” and is a combination of the two words.
