Lackawaxen is a small township in northeastern Pennsylvania. It is located along the Delaware River which separates Pennsylvania and New York. According to the United States Census Bureau, there were approximately 4,994 people living in Lackawaxen in 2010. It is the largest township in Pike County.
Original inhabitants of the land Lackawaxen is located on were Native American peoples. In the late 1700s, individuals of European descent arrived in the area and began establishing settlements. Jonathan Conkling was the first European individual to settle the land of modern-day Lackawaxen. The township is named for the Lenape word that means “The Place Where Two Rivers Meet.”
Modern-day Lackawaxen is a quaint, rural township. Residents enjoy beautiful mountains and scenic highways. The township encompasses a couple of State Game Lands and other outdoor recreation areas. Residents also enjoy easy access to larger cities like Scranton, Pennsylvania. For many residents, Lackawaxen is the ideal place to live.
